According to officials, the escalation comes amid ongoing conflict conditions that have disrupted shipping activity through the critical Persian Gulf passage, a key artery for global trade.
In a statement shared on X, the command reported that US forces successfully deployed multiple deep-penetration bombs against the identified targets. These Iranian missile sites were said to house anti-ship cruise missiles capable of threatening vessels navigating the strait.
A US official speaking to CNN identified the weapon used as the GBU-72 Advanced 5K Penetrator, a munition first introduced in 2021 for use by US aircraft.
Meanwhile, Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, emphasized that operations would continue with the goal of weakening Iran’s capacity to endanger maritime movement in the region.
He noted in a video statement that efforts are progressing steadily, adding that US forces remain alert as the situation develops.
