Iran Confirms Death of Ali Larijani After Israeli Strike in Tehran
Iranian state media has confirmed the death of Ali Larijani, describing the senior official as having been killed in an airstrike on Tuesday.
According to the Fars News Agency, Larijani, who served as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, was “martyred.” The 67-year-old figure had effectively become the country’s leading authority following the earlier death of Ali Khamenei on February 28.

Israel confirmed responsibility for the operation shortly after the strike. The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that the attack occurred overnight in Tehran and resulted not only in Larijani’s death but also that of Gholam Reza Soleimani, commander of the Basij volunteer force.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that both men had been “eliminated,” adding that they had joined others previously killed, including Khamenei. His remarks framed the strike as part of a broader campaign against Iran’s leadership.
Before the official confirmation, Iranian media had not immediately acknowledged Larijani’s death. Instead, reports circulated a handwritten message attributed to him, honoring sailors killed in a United States attack, with funeral proceedings expected on Tuesday.
The confirmation adds to a growing list of senior Iranian figures killed since hostilities intensified between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Among those lost are Ali Shamkhani and Mohammad Pakpour, both key figures in Iran’s military and defense leadership.
Larijani’s death follows recent remarks directed at Donald Trump, in which he issued a warning suggesting the former U.S. president could face elimination. He was also among ten officials targeted with a $10 million bounty announced by the U.S. State Department last week.
