‎Khan, a nationally recognized antitrust regulator and ally of Senator Bernie Sanders, previously served under President Joe Biden’s administration. Her inclusion signals a continued emphasis on economic fairness and government accountability as Mamdani prepares to take office on January 1.
‎Mamdani said the transition team will help identify key figures to implement his agenda, noting that the process will draw from a diverse range of talent. “We will cast a wide net,” he explained, highlighting plans to engage community organizers, policy experts, and local leaders with firsthand knowledge of New Yorkers’ needs.
‎The mayor-elect also called on his supporters to resume contributions to help fund transition efforts, including staffing, research, and operational infrastructure. “I’m excited for the fact that it will be funded by the very people who brought us to this point,” Mamdani said, emphasizing that the initiative will rely on grassroots support from working-class residents.
‎Addressing questions about relations with the federal government, Mamdani confirmed that he has not yet been contacted by the White House following his victory. He stated that he remains open to meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss shared priorities for New York City, including cost-of-living concerns and the local effects of federal legislation. Mamdani reiterated his willingness to engage in dialogue that could advance the interests of New Yorkers as his administration prepares for the transition to City Hall.
